The story of the Greenwich International Film Festival would make for… well, a really good movie. Take three highly motivated women, an ambitious idea to showcase filmmakers' work and provide entrée to financing opportunities, throw in some terrific and well-connected friends, and you have a cultural sensation that has captivated the metro area. Now approaching its third season, Greenwich International Film Festival (also fondly called GIFF) is a boutique film festival that brings together films from every genre, with about half having a social impact focus. This year's festival, which runs June 1-4, carries the theme "Make an Im- pact." And unlike most film festivals where the attention is on celebrities and producers, this film festival highlights its local philanthropic efforts. To date, GIFF has given more than $100,000 to charity partners and awarded $70,000 in cash prizes to filmmakers. Among this year's beneficiaries are Family Centers and Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. It is as GIFF likes to say, "the intersection of film, finance and philanthropy."
