[ ] 114 When interior designer Sara McCann opened Hive, she made sure nothing she put in her showroom was some thing she wouldn't want to have in her own home. "My husband was a little nervous about a 12,000-square-foot showroom," said McCann. "If I didn't want it to end up in my house, I wasn't going to buy it." Clients were drawn to her transitional, easy and colorful point of view. Two years later, she's never had to bring a stitch of fur niture home (unless she wants to). The store has found great success and become a symbiotic partner to her design business. "The two play together beau- tifully," said McCann. She designed her show- room to include inviting hardwood floors, love ly crown moldings, Waterworks bathrooms with mosaic tiles and Calacatta gold in the kitch en to show her design aesthetic as well as create an environment that makes shopping fun. "People say it's wonderful—that they could just move right in here," said McCann. She has been pleasantly surprised by the frequency at which her customers return for furnishings, ac cent pieces or hostess gifts (her Lucite desk accessories are a must). She said many clients even make Hive a stop on their "must-see" tours with out-of-town guests. To keep them coming, McCann is always off ering new delights and discoveries. "We're continuing to layer on more prod- ucts," said McCann of how the store has changed in the last two years. "We do the editing for our clients so we try to seek out the best of what's in each category." The store recently added a line of pri vate label bedding and bath linens. Plus, this spring, McCann said she is expanding the outdoor furniture line with lounge and patio furniture from labels like Janice et Cie, Brown Jordan and a private label outdoor umbrella company. She said the store can also provide instant grat- ifi cation to clients anxious to furnish their Palm Beach homes. She carries many pieces in stock and re cently acquired a delivery truck. And while McCann said her collection tends to stay above the trends, this spring is all about color. Look for lots of Cobalt blue and white china, fresh apple green accents or touches of lavender. "We try not to be too fussy or ornate," said McCann. "A little cleaner, understated elegance but with Florida perspective—sea glass colors in a more sophisticated palette."
